Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2, 2026
The Bruce McGuigan for Mayor campaign (“the campaign”, “we”) respects your privacy. This page explains what personal information we collect through bruceformayor.ca, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
What we collect
When you give it to us
- Contact form: your name, email, phone number (optional), subject (optional) and message.
- Lawn sign requests: your name, email, phone number, address, neighbourhood, whether you live in Victoria, any notes you add, and your email-updates preference.
- Donations: your name, email, phone number and home address. Local elections law requires us to collect and keep this information for contributions. Your card details go directly to Stripe, our payment processor, and never touch our servers.
- Campaign updates, pledge to vote and volunteer sign-ups: the details you enter in those forms, typically your name, email and contact details.
Automatically
- Site analytics: we use Matomo, hosted by our web developer (Moonjoule), to count visits and see which pages are used. It records things like pages viewed, referring site, browser and device type, and approximate location.
- Meta Pixel: we use the Meta (Facebook) Pixel to measure how our campaign advertising performs and to reach people who may be interested in the campaign. When you visit, your browser sends Meta information such as the page you viewed, your IP address, and identifiers such as cookies. If you are logged in to Facebook or Instagram, Meta may link this to your account. We do not use the Meta Pixel on our donation, contact, volunteer, pledge, lawn sign or thank-you pages.
How we use it
- To respond to your messages and requests.
- To deliver and track lawn signs.
- To process donations, issue receipts and meet our reporting and record-keeping obligations under local elections law.
- To send campaign updates, if you have asked for them.
- To plan outreach, and to understand and improve the website and our advertising.
We do not sell your personal information.
Who we share it with
We use these service providers to run the campaign. Each handles your information under its own privacy terms, and some store data outside Canada, including in the United States.
- Stripe: payment processing.
- Netlify: website hosting and form handling.
- Resend: sending notification and confirmation emails.
- Google: Google Sheets and Google Forms, used for lawn sign requests, pledges and volunteer sign-ups.
- Cyberimpact: the campaign updates mailing list.
- Moonjoule: website development and Matomo analytics.
- Meta: the Meta Pixel described above.
We may also disclose information where required by law, including to Elections BC or the City of Victoria for campaign financing disclosure.
Cookies and tracking
The Meta Pixel only loads if you accept it in the cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time using “Cookie settings” in the footer. Matomo and the Meta Pixel may set cookies or use similar technologies in your browser. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings, use a tracking-protection extension, or turn on “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control where your browser supports it. In your Facebook account you can manage ad preferences at facebook.com/adpreferences. The site works without cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep information only as long as we need it for the campaign and as long as the law requires. Donor records are kept for the period required by local elections law. You can ask us to remove you from the updates list at any time.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe: every campaign email includes an unsubscribe link.
- Access or correction: you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or to correct it.
- Withdraw consent or request deletion: you can ask us to stop using or to delete your information, except where we are required by law to keep it (for example, donation records).
To do any of these, email us at campaign@bruceformayor.ca.
Security
Our site uses HTTPS, and we limit access to personal information to the people who need it to run the campaign. No system is perfectly secure, so please take care when sharing sensitive details.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above.
